Ben Stratton breaks 11-year goalless streak in perfect retirement win

Stratton put the cherry on top of a dream retirement as he kicked his second career goal in the final minutes of the fourth quarter — snapping the longest active goalless streak in the game.

Stratton had teammates running on from everywhere as he kicked his first goal in 11 years as the Hawks sent their champions off with a 51-point thumping of the Suns in Adelaide.

Puopolo kicked three goals in the first three quarters but was still overshadowed by Stratton’s late goal after the defender was sent up forward by coach Alastair Clarkson with just six minutes left in his career.

When Jack Gunston took a mark 30m out on a slight angle, Stratton’s moment came when he latched onto the end of s suspiciously short kick from Gunston and went back and kicked his second career goal from 20m out right in front.

It created scenes of absolute chaos as Hawks players came from everywhere to share Stratton’s giggling joy.
